Weeks of work and dedication comes to fruition with Omagh Explorer Scouts selling their handmade Christmas Decorations at the Omagh Christmas Craft fair.

Over the last few months the Explorer Scouts from the Campsie Road in Omagh have been creating Christmas decorations as part of their programme. The decorations were all made from wood and required the help of Explorer Scout leaders where they came up with the ideas and provided the tools and guidance for the Explorers to make the items successfully and safely.

The help of parents who came in over the past few weeks with tools ideas and resources. This also helped create a triangle of teamwork between Young People Parents and  Leaders which is very important to make a success of any project.

Jack Latimer from the Gold Section in the group stated:

“We have really enjoyed it and did a lot of woodwork to make the trees, candles and stuff. We painted jars with varnish and stuck sequins on. We put a lot of work into it and we are hoping it turns out well"

The Explorer Scout leader and the person behind the project Brian said that things are going very well, it has created a sort of a team, and a team effort and shows what the young people can do when they work together.

Luke O’Donnell says that they have been working really hard and have been coming in on Saturdays and on Wednesdays. He thinks its been really fun and they have learned a lot and its good to sell them and make some money for the Scouts. The money made from the fair will go back into the Omagh Explorer Scout account to help pay for events and trips.

The Explorer Scouts meet every Wednesday night from 8:45pm to 10:15pm where they take part in a multitude of activities from fitness, outdoor pursuits, arts & crafts, drug and alcohol awareness. In the weeks coming up to the fair the dedicated Explorers met on Saturdays to help complete their projects to be sold at the fair. The level of detail that went into each of the items shows the dedication and the professional craftsmanship from the boys and girls.
